REXBURG—The City of Rexburg has completed a new leg of the Teton River Trail, connecting east and west Rexburg through a series of paved pathways. The trail weaves through town, surrounded by trees and grasses, avoiding busy streets except to cross. A portion of the trail follows alongside the Teton River.

The new section of the trail begins at the southeast corner of Madison Jr. High and goes behind the school, behind the track, and behind the new baseball diamonds. There, the trail meets the older section at Barney Dairy Road, heading north to where it curves west next to First American Title. There are several park benches along the next leg of the path, where you can stop to relax next to the river.

The next part of the trail leads all the way to Second East, ending across the street from McDonald’s. To continue from there, go north across the bridge and take the crosswalk across Second East toward Jack In the Box. The trail picks back up on the other side of the street with a pleasant walk along the river. Take the pedestrian bridge across the river and around the soccer fields. Past the soccer fields you’ll find a dirt bike park, and walk a little farther and you’ll pass Rexburg Rapids. The trail ends at E. Second North, but if you go west from there, you’re almost to the Madison County Fairgrounds and the Rexburg Nature Park.

The Teton River Trail is wide and well-maintained. It would be an ideal place to take a child who is learning to ride a bike, because the path is smooth and flat and far away from road traffic. It’s a great way to travel on foot from one side of Rexburg to the other.
