REXBURG, Idaho—Are you in need of a cake for a special occasion? Look no further than Rexburg Cakes.

Constance Haworth started Rexburg Cakes in August of 2015, but she has been baking and decorating cakes for 29 years. She is originally from Wilkesboro, N.C., and moved to Rexburg in 1992 to attend Ricks College.

Soon after moving to Idaho, Haworth went to a New Year’s Eve dance where she met her future husband. They started a family and now have eight children. Everyone helps with the cake business.

From the time that she was small, she remembers being in the kitchen with her grandma who was always cooking or baking something. It helped fuel her love for being in the kitchen and creating.

Haworth is a very crafty person, and she loves watercolor, quilting, sculpting, and many other ways to create. Her love of making cakes really started when she was 18-19 years old when she purchased a bunch of icing tips from a swap meet. When she got home, she started playing with them and that was all she needed to realize she loved creating cakes.

“Making and decorating cakes is an edible art,” she says.

Haworth especially loves making wedding cakes.

“There is something about making it and seeing it set up in the beautiful venues,” she says.

Her second favorite type of cake to make is a 3D sculpted cake. She says cakes are like snowflakes—not one is the same as the other.

Rexburg Cakes makes cakes for any occasion, and one thing that makes the business unique is that someone can order a birthday cake from anywhere in the world, perhaps for a loved one attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, and Rexburg Cakes will deliver it. They have taken orders from Germany, all over the U.S., Chili, China, England, the Philippines, and many more. Haworth loves that she can help families celebrate their loved ones even from thousands of miles away.

It’s not a snake, it’s a cake!

When someone is ordering, she hopes that the customer feels like they are being heard and understood. Her customers have become friends.

Another thing Haworth loves about the cake business is that she gets to see individuals grow. She has repeat customers who have come in to order their wedding cakes, then cakes for their baby showers, and then smash cakes when their babies are older. She loves seeing families grow and being a part of the celebrations are very important to her.

“Meeting people is the best part of the job,” she says.
