REXBURG — Everyone knows that libraries have books, but not everyone realizes that libraries offer many events for their communities as well. Madison Library has several activities each month specifically for adults. Come shake off the winter blues and visit one or all of these upcoming events.

Creative Writing Club

Libraries have plenty of stories, but if you want to show off your own creative writing stories, head to the Creative Writing Club hosted at the library every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. You don’t need to be a best-selling author to attend. Anyone willing to share their writing is welcome. Bring your favorite piece of writing and talk with other local authors about why writing is your passion. Creative Writing Club this month is offered on March 8th and 22nd at 6 p.m.

Adult Makers

This class is offered monthly for adults to make or create different art or crafts. In March, the class is called “An Introduction to Calligraphy – Italic Writing.” Whether you’re an experienced pro or just someone interested in trying it out, anyone is welcome to come learn more about calligraphy. You need to sign up in advance for this event, which you can do over the phone or in person at the library front desk. This event is on March 10 at 7 p.m. All materials are provided by the library. Participants only need to bring themselves!

Class coordinator Cathy Stanton says that “…before Covid we used to have so many people attend these events. But after we started the classes up again after lockdown, our turnout was much, much lower.” You can prove that these programs are still worth putting on for the community by signing up for this amazing class today.

Book Club

Looking for other book lovers to talk to about your recent reads? Come to the library book club to discuss a new book every month! Along with the discussion, enjoy something extra, like crafts, treats, or games that correlate to that month’s book. On March 30 at 6:30 p.m., come and discuss Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley. According to the library’s website, “Unless otherwise noted, a limited number of reading copies will be available for checkout from the circulation desk about a month prior to the meeting.”
