REXBURG, Idaho—Madison 321 is hosting an open house tonight to discuss the upcoming school bond election. School and district administrators are there now until 7 p.m. and will be available to take questions and discuss any concerns.

The $25.5 million bond election will take place Tuesday, March 8. If it passes, it will fund improvements to several district schools. (See this post from Madison 321 for more details.)

Madison Junior High Principal Wade Carlson took a few minutes to discuss the bond with the Jr. High PTO last week. He said most people he had spoken with had been supportive of the bond and agreed that these improvements were needed.

At the Junior High, Carlson said passage of the bond would mean adding nine new classrooms and an atrium that would relieve crowding at the school, especially during the busy lunch time. He said the school was serving 900 lunches every day and the extra space was sorely needed.

“This one is actually one that is a big need,” he said. “Just visit us during lunch.”

Carlson said that if the bond passes, the district was ready to get started on construction immediately.

“If it passes, they will start the very next day,” he said. “The atrium could be ready for next school year.”

Carlson said the addition of classrooms to the Junior High would help to decrease some of the class sizes.

“The response has been really positive,” he said. “This community is growing and there’s no way around that.”

Carlson encouraged any community members to questions or concerns to reach out to school and district administrators.

“If you have any concerns, just talk to us,” he said.
