REXBURG — The Rexburg Farmer’s Market is preparing to open for another season, offering a space where fresh produce, locally handmade products, and community connection all come together in one
place. The opening day is set for May 8 at 4 p.m., with the market running every Friday through September 28, a consistent and familiar schedule for many Rexburg residents.
For Larry Golden, the current president of the market’s board, the purpose of the event is rooted in something deeper than commerce. He said, “To bring the community closer to the food and the farm” is the purpose of the market. He described the market as a place where people can not only shop but also build relationships with the people who grow and create what they consume.
“[We] invite vendors to come in bringing quality, fresh, local products to eat.”
In past years, attendance was around 200 people, but recently, it has attracted 700 to 800 people on a typical market day. Golden sees this increase as a sign the community is responding to what the market offers.
“Each year, [we want] to increase the number of people attending … the market is there for everybody.”
This year’s vendor lineup reflects the spirit of inclusivity the market strives for. With nearly 90 vendors expected, the market features everything from fresh produce and meats to baked goods, handmade crafts, and specialty items. Everything sold at the market is made or prepared by hand. No secondhand products or mass and industrialized goods are permitted.
Visitors might find themselves drawn to booths like Itty Bitty Farms or Black Bear Farms, or exploring more unexpected offerings like 3D-printed creations and Shaka Juice. Golden emphasized that what matters most is not just the product, but the person behind it.
“The personality of the vendor is what makes the market unique and keeps their products unique.”
The market also serves as a starting point for many small businesses. Golden pointed to his own experience, beginning as an attendee before becoming a vendor selling freeze-dried foods. That
journey, he said, is exactly what the market is designed to encourage, giving both Brigham Young University-Idaho students and local residents a chance to gain experience and build a customer base.
More than anything, the atmosphere is meant to be welcoming and accessible. Families can expect yard games and activities, while a new punch card promotion will encourage visitors to interact with different vendors throughout the season.
A major highlight will come on July 3 with the “Party in the Park” celebration at Porter Park, featuring live entertainment and fun activities for kids, with plans for a special musical guest performer.
Golden hopes people will come regardless of whether they plan to spend money.
“You don’t have to buy anything … just come out and engage with the vendors. Make relationships.”
As the season approaches, the message is simple. The Rexburg Farmer’s Market is not just a place to shop. It’s a place to participate.
