REXBURG—The closure of Porter’s Craft & Frame in Rexburg and Abbott’s Craft & Variety in Rigby left a void in the local fabric and sewing supplies market. Or, as Christine Jarvie and Linda Kauer saw it, an opportunity.

With the subsequent closure of A.C. Moore in Rexburg, there’s never been a bigger need for a fabric store in the area.

Stitchin’ Around Quilts at 185 W. 1st North in Rigby opened in 2017 in response to the closure of other area fabric stores. They offer a sizeable selection of quilting fabric, flannel, and sewing notions, but Jarvie says their real specialty is their laser-cut applique kits that come pre-cut and pre-fused—ready to incorporate into a variety of projects.

They also offer long-arm quilting services using many different techniques.

Classes are on hold for now because of COVID-19, but Jarvie and Kauer intend to offer them again in the future.

Jarvie says she grew up hand quilting, but only started machine quilting in the last 15-20 years. But once she got into it, it became more than a hobby.

“I love quilting,” she says. “It’s my passion.”

Stitchin’ Around is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be reached at 208-745-8006 or stichinaroundquilts.com
