REXBURG—Cynthia McCurdy of Rexburg loves Christmas. That’s for sure. But her new shop, Little Red Corner at 2546 W. 6300 S. (Lyman area), is about much more than celebrating Christmas. It’s about family and community. It’s about making a new friend as you enjoy a cup of hot apple cider together. It’s about enjoying the spirit of Christmas any time of the year.
Little Red Corner opens its doors today (Saturday, Nov. 6) with a grand opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. McCurdy will serve up apple cider (regular or caramel flavors) and Biscoff cookies as she welcomes holiday shoppers to the detached garage she has transformed into a Christmas decor wonderland with the help of her children and grandchildren.
The store also features other seasonal (non-Christmas) items, a gift wrap station, aprons, socks, kitchen items, lotions, and silk floral arrangements made by McCurdy.
Little Red Corner will be open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday through December, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. McCurdy may add Black Friday hours, so we will update the story with that information. At the start of the new year, McCurdy plans to open the shop for one Saturday every month. (We will update our community calendar with those dates,)
Outside of those hours, McCurdy is always happy to schedule a one-on-one visit to the shop. To schedule an appointment, text 208-390-6000.
It has been a longtime dream of McCurdy’s to open a year-round Christmas shop. She worked retail for nearly 30 years as a display artist in several local stores and honed her skills creating silk flower arrangements as well. This year, it finally felt like the right time to make Little Red Corner happen.
McCurdy only plans to stock two or three of each item so she can always offer her customers something unique, and keep the store interesting and fresh. She also loves arranging custom silk flowers and will take requests to create arrangements that are unique to each customer.
Above all, McCurdy hopes people will check it out whether they plan to buy or not. Her affection for fellow humans is what drives her the most.
“I want to create an atmosphere that, when you come in, you feel like you’re home,” she says. “If you want to have a cup of herbal tea with me and a cookie and just chill with me, that’s what we’ll do. I love people. It’s more important to me that they come. It’s about the friends. It’s about the caring. It’s about the connection.”
