REXBURG, Idaho — Rexburg Children’s Choir co-director Sheree Hastings says audience members at the choir’s upcoming concert should expect to come away from the program feeling “uplifted, edified, and so happy.”
The choir will be joined by the 25th Army Band in a special patriotic concert to take place Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rexburg Tabernacle Civic Center, 51 N. Center Street, Rexburg. Admission is free.
The band is making a stop in Rexburg as part of their summer performance tour through southern Idaho. Based out of Gowen Field in Boise, the band is made up of members from the Idaho National Guard.
Choir co-director Ben Watson plays the trombone in the 25th Army Band. He says the band will perform “patriotic favorites that people will be familiar with, like ‘Stars and Stripes Forever,’ the ‘Armed Forces on Parade’ medley, and a few other patriotic marches.”
Watson hopes to have many military veterans in attendance, as they will be honored for their service during the program.
“We are trying to get as many veterans there as possible,” Watson says. “As we celebrate America on the Fourth of July, I think it’s also important that we remember the service of all veterans who continue to secure the promise of freedom that Independence Day represents.”
Celebrating America with the young choir members has been a special experience for Hastings.
“The kids have a beautiful experience with patriotic songs,” she says. “When they sing ‘Oh America,’ it connects them to the depth of America, and it’s beautiful to witness that.”
The choir and band are expecting a full house. While admission is free, those who would like to attend are encouraged to make a reservation here.
