REXBURG—Madison High School will perform the beloved classic “Fiddler on the Roof,” starting next week.
Robert Hibbard is the stage director and Dave Hinck is the music director. Hibbard states that they worked together on the decision to produce this play. Their desire came from the fact that it is very famous and loved. He explained that he put it on a few years back and was ready for the challenge to do it again.
Hinck said that he was excited to help the students prepare to sing such legendary songs.
Hibbard also loved that the musical has a lot of characters in it, because he wanted many students to be able to participate in the play. There is a cast of 63 students.
A summary from Musical Theatre International:
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
Hibbard adds that his cast has been working tirelessly on the music and choreography and knows that watching the students perform will be delightful. Their rendition of this classic in musical theatre cannon will bring a smile to your face and have your shoe tapping along. Don’t miss it!
