REXBURG—Human for Human, a new humanitarian organization local to Rexburg, is running a thrifting event to raise funds on Saturday, December 4. There will be clothes and household goods available at discounted prices to benefit local community causes.
Human for Human is a business targeted towards helping others at a community level. The founders, Caitlyn Pincock and Jainey Wright came up with the idea while carpooling home from a mutual friend’s baby shower, despite not knowing each other well. The spark that started it all? A mutual passion for helping people.
Pincock says, “We have five main values: Community, Capable, Hope, Inspire and Potential.”
Human for Human’s main focus so far has been fundraising in order to make capital to start other projects. One fundraising project has been going door-to-door at apartment complexes offering to take out bags of trash for donations.
Pincock described her experience working with residents:
“We go out and we say who we are and what we’re doing, taking out trash for a dollar or whatever you have—even if it’s ten cents we’ll take it. We have students saying ‘here, have ten bucks.’ It’s been awesome to see how kind and generous people are … It’s been really cool that even in low-income areas, people are still very generous.”
Upcoming goals include helping families with various Christmas needs, working with Ronald McDonald House Charities and hosting classes to teach basic life skills.
Wright describes their goals this way: “Our overall mission is to strengthen communities … it’s basically ‘see a need, fill a need.’”
Pincock agreed and added, “If everybody knows that they are loved and they are surrounded by people who love them, that is the foundation … Just helping everybody understand that they are loved, they have worth, they are valued, and they have the power to change their lives.”
Human for Human currently works in the Rexburg area, but hopes to expand to other communities around the United States and even across the world. Their next fundraising event will be held December 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 338 W. First South in Rexburg. They are accepting donations of used clothing and household items.
