REXBURG, Idaho—Everybody likes Texas Slough, from bird watchers to fishermen and hunters. There are even a bunch of people who live right by the Texas slough who enjoy it daily. There is an abundant life of birds that enjoy this area.
Since my father took me, my brother, and a friend duck hunting, the Texas Slough has been a part of my life. I grew up here with fishing stories about my Grandpa Saurey, catching a 10-pound mountain whitefish off a minnow. One time, when we had our pond, my dad and I went to get moss from Texas Slough because our pond was too clear. But moss grew too fast in our pond.
When we went duck hunting on a slough with my friend and my dad, I shot at a common Golden Eye Duck. It landed on the ice. I started to walk on the ice and fell through. I was lucky because the water was warm.
My uncle said that the Texas Slough was a playground for him and my dad in the 1960s and 1970s when they went fishing, hunting, and trapping. My uncle said he doesn’t remember a bad or good day there. It was a place where they would spend time outdoors with their friends.
My uncle said he remembered the Texas Slough also being private property. My grandpa would take my dad and my uncle hunting, fishing, and trapping when they were younger. Texas Slough is a fun place to spend time outdoors.
