REXBURG, Idaho—Saddle on up for a chance to be a real cowboy or cowgirl this weekend in Rexburg.
District 7 High School Rodeo is hosting a fundraiser event this Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Madison County Fairgrounds, 460 W. Second North, Rexburg. Entrance to the event is $10 per person or $30 for a family. Concessions will be available, including burgers and hot dogs.
According to District 7 Director Kacy Bradshaw, the event will raise funds for high school rodeo athletes, mostly to help pay entrance fees as they compete.
“Our biggest cost is when our kids qualify for state,” Bradshaw said. “Our district helps our kids get to state finals so they can go on to nationals.”
There is no extra charge to participate in the event’s “Ultimate Cow Riding” competition. Bradshaw invites community members to get a team of five together and give it a try. No experience necessary. The goal of the game is for the team to contain the cow and for one person to ride it for a short distance.
Bradshaw said the event will end “when we’re out of teams and participants.”
Bradshaw encouraged people to come and participate, even if they don’t have a full group.
“It’s going to be a fun night and if they have a buddy that wants to come and participate, we’ll find a couple more buddies for you,” she said. “It’s just a fun night to come pretend you’re a cowboy for the night.”
There are no age requirements to participate in the competition, but Bradshaw said each participant will need to sign a waiver.
