REXBURG—Taekwondo master Tim Laderman is no stranger to the martial arts, having taught for almost 20 years here in Rexburg at Idaho Martial Arts Academy. Before moving to Tennessee recently, he passed the torch to two of his students, Matt Skinner and Trent Galbraith, who set out to open a Taekwondo school here which they’ve named Legacy Taekwondo, in honor of the mark that Laderman left on the community. Both Trent and Matt have seven years of experience under their first-degree black belts and are excited to hit the ground running with their new students.
“We have both seen the impact that Taekwondo can have on people. We have experienced it ourselves and seen positive impacts, not only in our own families, but in many of the students who have trained under Master Laderman,” Skinner and Galbraith told me during our interview. “We want to keep this positive momentum and continue to offer this experience to the Rexburg community.”
Located in Rexburg at 17 West Main St., classes are held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with two classes per day. The first is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the second is from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.. The times are subject to change based on the needs of the students. Classes start with warmups and jump into the weekly lessons with kicking and hand techniques, self-defense, and sparring.
Legacy Taekwondo charges $60 a month with a $45 registration fee. The first uniform is free. The studio can be reached at (208) 656-3488.
