REXBURG—Officials continue to press forward with plans for the south section of the Teton River Park announced in the summer of 2023.

Designed for teenagers, college students and families alike, the park will include fun and adventure for all. This park will cover a significant portion of land, which will include several different amenities that developers have planned.

Over the past few years, Rexburg has received an influx of new residents, and the city continues to expand. Jon Lewis, director of recreation for the city of Rexburg, shared his thoughts on the expansion.

“The simple fact is we’re a growing city, and we are trying to do what we can to kind of keep up with the population growth, to have adequate green space to go along with the population,” said Lewis.

As the park will be built right on the Teton River, Lewis and other officials hope to utilize the river and beach area. Lewis hopes that locals will have the opportunity to float down the river in kayaks or tubes. While the city awaits permits for their beach area, they continue to work hard to make the park as much fun as possible. Along with the sandy beach, there will be many acres of grassy area. Plans are in the works for two sand volleyball pits, a concrete path, an outdoor stage and a bouldering area.

The city of Rexburg has also announced a north section for the Teton River Park but is still in the process of planning this. They hope to implement a path for the south end to connect it to the north end.

Like many locals, Lewis acknowledges the students at Brigham Young University-Idaho and looks for opportunities to embrace the student population. Being built between East Seventh North and Barney Dairy Road, this park will be a perfect destination for students, only ten minutes away from campus.

Lewis said Rexburg “feels special, and it’s going to be something big eventually, and we’re just part of the beginning process.”

The city of Rexburg continues to embrace the growth of the city and looks forward to the groundbreaking of this park.
