REXBURG, Idaho––The Collegiate Singers and the Chamber Orchestra (Sinfonietta), two musical groups within Brigham Young University-Idaho’s Department of Music, will tour the American South April 7-15. The upcoming performances will take students to Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas.

Dr. Randall Kempton, conductor of the Collegiate Singers, praised the opportunity to share students’ talent outside of Rexburg. “After a hiatus, the Collegiate Singers are grateful to be touring again!” Kempton said. “We appeal to families and audiences of all ages. Our performance includes dance music, inspirational music, new music, and music of love, faith, healing, and hope in English and Spanish.”

The BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers are one of six vocal ensembles at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Comprised of 40 of the finest singer/musicians on campus, the group strives to give both singers and audience members an uplifting experience with a wide variety of musical styles. The Collegiate Singers will perform in Stillwater and Alva, Oklahoma, as well as Lubbock, Texas as part of their spring “We Sing Love” tour.

The BYU-Idaho Chamber Orchestra is comprised of 27 of the finest string musicians on campus, with each member representing a variety of different disciplines and majors. Directed by Dr. Dallin Hansen, the orchestra performs a wide range of musical selections from the great classics to modern works, drawn from the 18th through the 20th centuries.

The Chamber Orchestra will perform in Marksville, Opelousas, Metairie, Louisiana and College Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. BYU-Idaho performance tours coordinator Amy Baldauf said the Chamber Orchestra performances are not to be missed. “The Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra is an exceptional group of musicians with talent and artistry,” Baldauf said. “Their concert ‘A Time to Dance: Celebrating Music for Strings’ is sure to impress!”

The Collegiate Singers and the Chamber Orchestra will combine for their final two tour performances in Uvalde and San Antonio, Texas. Proceeds from ticket sales in Uvalde will benefit the Uvalde Forever Fund. Proceeds from the concert in San Antonio will benefit the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio.

Kempton said this tour will be particularly impactful as this group of BYU-Idaho musicians bring a message of love and healing to a community recently hit by tragedy.

“Please pray for us as we share these messages on tour,” Kempton said. “Especially in Uvalde, Texas, a community still recovering from a tragic school shooting just one year ago.”

Before the tour, the Chamber Orchestra will hold a performance at BYU-Idaho in the Barrus Concert Hall on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. and the Collegiate Singers will hold a performance at BYU-Idaho in the Barrus Concert Hall on Thursday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 for BYU-Idaho students and $6 for the general public, and can be purchased through the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office or online at www.byui.edu/ticket-office.
