REXBURG — On March 20, Brigham Young University–Idaho opened a new art exhibit in the Jacob Spori Building. This art exhibit is the culmination of an entire semester of student artwork. It shows not only individual skill and achievement, but also creativity and dedication.
The Student Gallery includes a wide range of artwork. Each artist chose their own medium, theme and tools for their art. Some of the art has a more serious feel, leaning towards religious or classical themes, while other pieces are more experimental and imaginative.
One student, Ariss West, shared what inspired her work for this gallery.
“They’re from Chinese novels. I like the characters,” said West.

The students put an incredible amount of time and effort into each piece, not only drafting and reworking the pieces themselves, but also taking years to build their skill and craft.
“The one you took a picture of is three different pieces,” West said. “Those ones took three hours each. The other one is also two pieces, just combined into one. But each slide took about six to eight hours.”

Among the art pieces, visitors will find video production projects, paintings, sketches, sculptures and more. Several of the art pieces are currently up for sale.
When anyone visits this art gallery, they are sure to find something that catches their attention. But most of all, they are given the opportunity to witness the craft of rising artists who have put the better part of their lives into their work.
When asked how she started as an artist, West said, “All children draw, I never stopped.” This gallery is an excellent opportunity to witness the creativity of several students who never stopped.
The Gallery will remain open to the public until April 9. It is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
