REXBURG—Looking for a unique Valentine’s Day date? Well, look no further!
Brigham Young University-Idaho graduate and platinum recording artist Evie Clair is coming with her band, Evie Clair & the Union, to perform a Valentine’s Day concert this weekend in Rexburg. The concert will take place at the Romance Theater on Friday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Evie Clair started singing before she could talk. She grew up performing musical numbers in church, largely influenced by her mother, a music teacher and singer. Clair wrote her first song at five years old.
“I always knew I wanted to be a singer,” said Clair. “It just seemed like the natural path for me. I loved it. I loved performing. I loved all of it.”
As Clair gained experience and received support from her family, she tried out for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” This was a turning point for the young performer.
“That was the boost for my music career, for sure,” Clair said. “It was really a great experience. It was hard, but it was good for me in a lot of ways and taught me a lot.”
Unfortunately, this major high point for Clair was also one of her most challenging times. Her father was battling colon cancer. Just one day before Clair would sing for the semi-finals, he passed away, leaving a wife and family behind.
Clair’s father, to this day, continues to be one of her biggest inspirations for her singing, songwriting and life decisions. She strives to live a life that would make him proud.
“He inspires me every single day. I know that he is still with me. He was always my best friend,” Clair said.
In her upcoming concert, Evie Clair will be joined by her bandmates, Stephen Henderson, Tanner Robinson, Joe Griffin, and Katie Robinson for a mix of classic and original love songs.
“It’s going to be so fun!” Clair said. “We have a lot of different styles of music. We have sad songs, we have happy songs, we have songs that are romantic. It’s going to be such a good time!”
She stresses that everyone from all walks of life is welcome at the concert.
“We want everyone there. Whether you are coming with a date or not. Whatever stage of life of life you’re in,” Clair said.
